Why hasnt my ankle healed after9 weeks?
Answer:
THAT'S REALLY BAD GO SEE YOUR GP QUICK
U DON'T WANT IT TO GET INFECTED
Have you been walking on it or have you done what the doctor says?? Prop it up when you can and keep ice on it. I broke a bone in my foot 5 days ago and I don't take my advice. I did for 3 days though.
This depends on what you did to your ankle...I am just gonna assume you sprained it...if so, then 9 weeks is a long time...the trick with sprains is, you have to do RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevate) but you also can't baby it by staying off it too much...walk the sprain out (not fast but a nice, normal pace), also do RICE...take aspirin don't use crutches and don't wear those silly air casts the doctors give you, they just prolong the healing process...but DO wrap it in an Ace bandage,
Perhaps it wasn't set back correctly. Or maybe you are allergic to something that is used to make it heal (I was allergic to the inside stitches when I had surgery on my foot once---it stayed in different casts for over 9 months). Tell your doctor to run tests, or seek a second opinion.
Some more details on what happened to your ankle would help but it depends on what you've been doing, wait-bearing etc
For most things like sprains, torn tendons and ligaments it should have healed by now(like about 5-6 weeks ago even) but if anything was fractured that's a whole other kettle of fish and depends on what bone what type of fracture and again what activities you've been doing
Have you sprained your ankle? If so it should have resolved by week 3.As you still have symptoms - pain , swelling , ankle giving way? Then you probably have a partial or complete tear of the talo-fibular ligament complex. You need to get your ankle examined and if this is confirmed seen by an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in ankles.
GO TO THE BONE DOC OR ER OR OR OR HEART DOC
Go to the doctors and make sure they sort it out!
I need a bit more information to go on sorry, wheres the fracture, what type off fracture, have you a cast on etc email me and i can try and help.
You haven't said what kind of injury you had. Different injuries takes different times to heal. A sprain usually involves torn ligaments, torn muscles and broken blood vessels and this takes much longer to heal then a break which is much more straighforwad. If you are worried speak to your doctor who may decide it is time for a X-ray to see what is going on.
