Besides the obvious i will be going to the doctor soon but i'm not sure why or how this happened? The middle toe hurts where it is connected to my foot (3rd knuckle). There is no bruse and it's been hurting for about a month or so. It really hurts when i squeeze it from the sides in. Any ideas on what it is?

There are a lot of structures in and around the the knuckle. If it hurts while squeezing, it could be a neuroma which is an inflammed nerve that can affect the 3rd toe joint and sometimes the 4th toe joint. X-rays will likely be taken to make sure nothing is broken. It can also be inflammation of the capsule or even the bursa underneath the knuckle so a good physical exam will be able to rule these things out. You should go see a podiatrist (foot/ankle specialist). Until then, ice and Advil/Aleve for the pain. I think you may need a custom insert at some point. Hope this helps!
